Meet Neysa
Neysa Winterer is a contemporary paper artist who also has works in other mediums such as paint and pastels. A native of Newington, Connecticut, her vibrant artwork pays homage to her love of colors and of life around her. Her distinctive personal style emanates joy and expresses the deep admiration she has for artists of the past.
Picturesque landscapes, trees and lakes, reimagined works from Monet and Van Gough are all brought to life with contrasting and harmonious colors and bold compositions. As the artist explains, “Each piece of torn paper brings a uniqueness to my work and I love that.”
As a child Neysa was almost never seen without paper and pencil. From a young age she was aware how prominent creative outlets were in her life. She learned to be resourceful and independent when learning new skills in the arts. And while she has no formal training at a University she has a tenacious drive that allowed her to be self taught in many mediums.
Neysa’s professional career took off in 2017 at Unearthed Arts in Waconia, Minnesota. Her artwork has been shown in exhibitions at Gallery 360, including “van Gogh Slept Here” 2020 and “Impressions of Monet” 2022. Her paper pieces have been accepted into the juried Minnesota State Fair and White Bear Lakes Center for the Arts. Neysa participates in the Carver County Art Wander each year and shows at Northrop King in Northeast Minneapolis.
Neysa’s days are spent tearing and painting with paper in her home studio in Excelsior, Minnesota. Though her art career has been immensely successful, her real success lies in the family she has raised. Her four grown children live nearby and have blessed her with seven beautiful grandchildren. Her husband, Tom, and Yorkshire terrier, Bree, are her biggest fans and visit the home studio often to offer their full support.
